Amazon’s new hardware launch event set to take place on September 28

Image
As we near the festive season in India, Amazon comes around showering us with new gifts. The company is set to launch new hardware on September 28 from 9:30 PM IST. That’s right, the launch event is but a few days away, and the company is sending out invites to attend the limited attendance event where it would announce the latest “devices, features, and services.” However, you will not be able to witness the event in real-time since, as we mentioned before, it’s invite only and there will be no love stream for the general public. Unsurprisingly, the invite lacks details regarding exactly which products would be unveiled, but the hardware unveiling in 2020 creates some grounds for speculation. It is expected that Amazon’s Echo devices along with the popular Alexa will be receiving new upgrades. In the launch event in 2020, the e-commerce powerhouse had launched new Echo speakers, Fire TV stick, new Ring cameras, Eero routers, and many others. This year, it has rolled out the Echo Show ...

PayPal acquires Japanese BNPL platform Paidy for $2.7 billion

Image
With the fintech sector booming like never before, fintech start-ups have grown and expanded their businesses by unforeseen magnitude. This expansion includes acquisitions, and this time US-based fintech player PayPal announced that it would be acquiring the Japanese Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) platform Paidy for nearly $2.7 billion (300 billion yen) principally in cash. Post the acquisition, Paidy will continue to operate as usual and president and CEO Riku Sugie and executive chairman Russell Cummer will retain their positions. According to PayPal, the Paidy acquisition will bolster its capabilities, distribution, and relevance in the domestic payments market in Japan (which also happens to be the third-largest e-commerce market in the world) and complement the company’s existing cross-border e-commerce business in the country. Additionally, this will increase PayPal’s market share in Japan. “Paidy pioneered buy now, pay later solutions tailored to the Japanese market and quickly grew t...

iOS 15 rolls out to general public

Image
Announced during WWDC earlier this year, iOS 15 is now available to download. However, this time around, the launch is different as it will not be mandatory for people to upgrade from iOS 14 – you will be able to continue using iOS 14 if you do not wish to use iOS 15. Why is that so? Well, iOS 15 is missing features such as SharePlay, Universal Control, Find My AirPods, 3D Maps CarPlay Navigation, App Privacy Report, and others. However, inspite of this, the new OS still sports several interesting new additions. One of them is giving users the ability to change their Focus from Control Center. Additionally, you can create more than one Focus – a separate one for different activities such as work, sleep, driving, reading, personal time, gaming, fitness, and mindfulness. Moreover, every Focus is customizable and can be automatically turned on and off. And if that is not enough, turning on a Specific Focus will block notifications by default. If you don’t want to do that, this feature wil...

Image
This festive season, Amazon has brought Indians a new gift. The semantics barrier is one that has deterred a lot of Indians from exploring e-commerce over the years, but thanks to Amazon, people may now be one step closer to overcoming that challenge. Even as it is reportedly investigating the conduct of its legal representatives in India, the e-commerce giant has announced that it would be expanding its regional language offering and launching the voice shopping feature in Hindi. That’s right, once the feature comes out (it is set to arrive ahead of Diwali in early November) you will be able to browse and shop by giving voice commands in Hindi. Additionally, the regional language support for shopping on Amazon’s site now includes Bengali and Marathi as well. This will be a much-needed update for the Indian market, a big part of which continues to struggle with online shopping, mostly because of the language barrier. Users will be able to provide voice commands in Hindi to shop, searc...

Amazon investigates bribery accusations from its legal representatives to Indian government officials: Report

Image
2021 is turning to be a tough year for giants of the tech world, as governments grow more and more weary of monopolies. Amazon, which is perhaps the biggest name in the tech world, is currently facing a probe by the CCI for alleged violations of Indian laws. However, it looks like the e-commerce behemoth’s problems in India are far from over, as Amazon has now launched a probe into the conduct of its legal representatives in the world’s second-largest internet market. India is one of the key markets of Amazon- in fact, the company has invested over $6.5 billion in India, and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy is targeting the country for growth. In India, Amazon is competing against Walmart’s Flipkart and Mukesh Ambani’s retail websites including JioMart. It has over 1,00,000 employees across India and has pledged to digitize 10 million small businesses, enable $10 billion in exports and create two million jobs in the country by 2025. Amazon has faced several challenges in pursuit of its goal...
